The balsamic vinegar of Modena is one of the leading figures of the thirteenth Report Ismea-Qualivita, socio-economic investigation of agribusiness and PDO and PGI wine that was presented this morning in Rome, during the national day of food quality promoted by the Mipaaf in collaboration with Ismea. In the report, drawn up in 2015 on data 2014, It highlighted the already established relevance that the balsamic vinegar of Modena has in the world of Italian PDO and PGI, placing himself actually 1st in production value with 294 millions of euro (+12,2%) and an impact on total Food sector of 4,6%. But not only. The category in 2014 recorded positive trends compared to 2013 also in terms of quantity produced and exports – which account for about 92% of total production – which, growing of 12,3% compared to the previous year arrive in 496 millions of euro, that is more than 18% of the total exports of Food sector. In terms of territorial data: the province of Modena, in the Food sector&Wine is ranked third nationally, going up even on the second step of the podium if you are talking about just Food.
PGI – Protected Geographical Indication
The term “PGI” is related to the name of a region, of a specific place or, in exceptional cases, a country, used to describe an agricultural product or a foodstuff originating in that region, specific place or country, and which possesses a specific quality, reputation or a ’ other characteristics attributable to that geographical origin and the production and all ’/or processing and/or preparation of which take in the given geographical area ’.
